Mushing & Races

At Fire on Fire, mushing isn’t just a side activity—it’s a way of life. Our dogs live and work with us north of the Arctic Circle. They take part in regular training sessions, mountain outings, and mid-distance races that showcase their endurance, their joy of running, and our bond.

The Samoyed is, first and foremost, a Nordic sled dog. Preserving its working abilities is a priority for me, just as much as its health or beauty. Sledding helps develop:

  • physical fitness and endurance,
  • the bond between humans and dogs,
  • the shared joy of running together,
  • respect for the breed's historical heritage.

Training takes place mainly in Norwegian Lapland, among forests, frozen lakes, mountains, and fjords. In the fall, the dogs train with ATVs, go-karts, scooters, or bicycles to build muscle and endurance in preparation for the winter season. In winter, they pull the sled on snow, on daily outings ranging from 10 to 70 km depending on the season. The most experienced dogs also participate in medium-distance races (50–60 km).
